Hong Kong (China)'s eSIM
Hong Kong operates its own telecoms network, separate from mainland China, and that distinction is the single most important thing to understand before you travel. Internet access here is not subject to mainland restrictions — Google, WhatsApp and Instagram work normally, which is not the case an hour north across the border.
Install the profile before you fly; it activates at Hong Kong International. Useful on arrival, since the Airport Express and the bus routes serve different parts of the city and Octopus card top-ups are easiest managed with data.
We list 87 Hong Kong plans from $0.95. Daily bundles suit a stopover; 15 and 30-day options fit a longer stay. Important: a Hong Kong plan does not cover mainland China, and a mainland plan does not cover Hong Kong. If your trip includes both, choose a regional Asia plan that lists them separately.
Networks and coverage
77 of our 87 Hong Kong plans include 5G, and speeds here are among the fastest anywhere. Coverage is effectively total — the MTR including cross-harbour tunnels, high-rise interiors, the Peak, Lantau and the outlying islands all perform well.
These eSIM plans provide mobile data and do not include standard calls or SMS. Keep your regular SIM available for verification codes and use internet messaging apps over data. The main gaps are on hiking trails in the country parks and on longer ferry routes to the outer islands.
