Malaysia's eSIM
Malaysia is really two trips in one. The peninsula is dense and easy — Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, all well connected by road and rail. Borneo is a different proposition, with Kota Kinabalu and Kuching as gateways to national parks where the last stretch is often by boat. A Malaysia eSIM covers both, on one profile.
Install before you fly; it activates at KLIA, Penang, Kota Kinabalu or Kuching. Immediately useful, since KLIA sits well outside the city and the express train, bus and ride-hailing options differ substantially in price.
We list 102 Malaysia plans from $0.95 — one of our largest single-country selections. Daily bundles suit a KL stopover; 15 and 30-day options fit a fuller route including Langkawi or Borneo. 54 plans are continental if Singapore or Thailand are also on the itinerary.
Networks and coverage
89 of our 102 Malaysia plans include 5G, with 4G/LTE beneath. Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru perform well, as does the North–South Expressway corridor.
Borneo coverage is good in the cities and along main roads but drops away quickly in the interior — Mulu, Danum Valley and the upper Kinabatangan have little or none. These eSIM plans provide mobile data and do not include standard calls or SMS. Keep your regular SIM available for verification codes and use internet messaging apps over data.
