Romania's eSIM
Romania is a driving country with genuinely good roads in places and genuinely bad ones elsewhere, which is exactly the situation live navigation was made for. The Transfăgărășan closes for much of the year, Transylvanian villages are spread further apart than they look, and Bucharest traffic rewards a routing app.
Install the profile before you travel; it activates at Bucharest Otopeni, Cluj or Timișoara. Useful on arrival — Romanian ride-hailing is cheap and widely used, and considerably more predictable than airport taxis.

Networks and coverage
90 of our 91 Romania plans include 5G, and Romanian mobile internet is among the fastest and cheapest in Europe — a genuine strength. Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara and Brașov all perform very well.
Carpathian mountain roads, the Danube Delta and remote Maramureș villages are weaker. The Danube Delta in particular is boat territory with little coverage. These eSIM plans provide mobile data and do not include standard calls or SMS. Keep your regular SIM available for verification codes and use internet messaging apps over data.
