China (mainland & HK)'s eSIM

This plan covers mainland China and Hong Kong specifically — useful for a Shenzhen-Hong Kong crossing or similar route. As with our broader China regional plan, it's worth knowing that these two operate under different internet access policies despite sharing a border.

Install before you fly; it activates on whichever network is available as you cross between the mainland and Hong Kong.

Networks and coverage

Coverage is strong on both sides — Hong Kong has some of the world's densest infrastructure, and mainland Chinese border cities like Shenzhen are extensively covered.

The practical difference is internet access policy, not network quality: Hong Kong has unrestricted access, mainland China filters many services nationally.

Frequently asked questions

Will international apps work on both sides?
In Hong Kong yes, normally. On the mainland, many international services are filtered nationally regardless of your eSIM.
Does this include Macao?
No, this is specifically China mainland and Hong Kong. See our 3-country China/HK/Macao plan if Macao is also on your route.
Do I need a VPN for the mainland portion?
If you need filtered services, arrange and test a VPN before travelling.
